The reliability of websites
When looking at the reliability of websites, you need to know this following things:
Who wrote it? You need to decide if the website can be trusted. Even if there is a lot of good information on website, you might not trust it if the design of it is bad. Is their view bias or are they speaking as an outsider?
What? What exactly is written?
When? It is important to know when somthing was written...
Research techniques which we haven't tried
Participant Observation Research - This is when you have a go at something with a group of people for your research.
Observation covert - This is when you observe a group of people doing something without telling them you are doing it. You don’t get involved with the activity yourself. You might them tell them afterwards that you were observing them.

Website competitor analysis/comparative study
Today we tried out another way of researching. The task that we did required us to look at two websites about music promotion, compare them with each other and give them a mark out of 5 for different areas such as their readability and navigation.
The other criteria were: Home page, links and labels, search and search results, performance and content.
In some ways it was good as it was very...
Survey Results
I found Survey Monday very easy to use as you can make a decent questionaire with it, give the link of it to people to complete and then it works out the results for you.
From my findings, I found out the following information about JPr’s viewing habits? (6 people took part in my survey)
50 % of people said that on a daily basis they watch television for an average of 2 hours a...

Questionaires
During today’s lesson we did a task where we were all given a question and we had to outline what the problems with it were. The questionnaires aim was to find out about downloading and streaming habits among a particular age group.

Analysis of ethinic representation in womens...
We did a task during today’s lesson about the representation of people of different ethnicities in women’s magazines. I was working with Callum and we looked at a In Style magazine from September 2009. The technique that we used to do our research was to count the models in the magazine depending on their ethnicity. We found that the majority of the models in the magazine were of a...
Focus Group Task
As a class we were put into 2 different groups. We had 1 person in each group who asked their group questions and another person in each group who acted as a scribe.
In our group, Alex asked the questions and Emma was our scribe. I thought our focus group went quite well as everyone was able to give their opinions without anyone talking over each other.

Focus Groups
Focus groups are used a lot in media research. It is an example of qualitative research which is used to get the opinions and thoughts of a product from a group of people. Questionaires are often used.
Just before Paranormal Activity was in the cinema, it was shown to a group of people in a focus group and they gave their feedback on what they thought of it. After looking at the research, the...
Types of research

Qualitive research is when you get really detailed answers from someone. Quanatitative reserach is when you get information such as figures.

Social Media Research
I’ve just read an aritcle called “Social Media Reserach” and it looks at how and why companies use social networking for research. Companies such as Coca Cola use their facebook page to get suggestions and comments from the people who buy their products and they find it a very useful tool. It is also a lot cheaper and easier then printing out lots of questionaires and...

Things which need to be consider could include:
It needs to be clear what sort of programme you want to produce and what the target audience of it is.
You need to think about what channel it would suit. Possibley a mainstream channel such as BBC 1 or ITV1 or maybe a more specalist channel if your programme isn’t so mainstream.
The time that the programme is on is very important. If...
How does the media use research?
1 - You are starting a new magazine - what do you need to consider?
- Who your target audience is. This will determine what things you would include in your magazine and what the style of the writing would be like for example.
- What sort of colour scheme would be suitable.
- What your USP should be. This would be somthing which will tell people why they should buy your magazine.
- The front...
